Ones keep rolling

The first team travelled to Burridge for a hotly anticipated clash on the South Coast. The sun was shining and Odiham had the joy of Ollie Turner on debut making the trip to Burridge, a well deserved call up and as will be seen from the report and scorecard a debut to be proud of. Sadly it was a less than ideal start with traffic delaying the arrival of a hungry Odiham side who so far in the league were 229 for 20 wickets with the ball in hand!

The day started off well with a successful toss victory leaving the O's to set a total with the bat in hand. This sadly did not pan out as planned in the first instance with the 1's being reduced to 68-7 after 16 overs on what can only be discussed as a good pitch! However up stepped Jon Hawk with a superb and chanceless 69 leading the hosts to 153 all out. In true great partnership style though there must be someone at the other end, this week that was Ollie turner who faced more than 30 balls and kept the game alive whilst Hawky scored freely from the other end. A knock well beyond his years and one showing what is to come for us as a club.

After a successful ending the O's took to the field with a desire to have an impact and that was certainly what followed. A good start by the hosts was short lived as Jon Hawk the man of the moment knocked off their first opener with a great catch at first slip by Ed Ikin. What followed was one of the best bowling displays any of us have been a part of, a maiden wicket for Ollie Turner returning figures of 1-5, 2 big wickets taken by Scott McGaughrin in return for 27 runs were well worked for. A tasty 3-12 for vice captain Ed Ikin was another solid performance but nothing matched those of the talisman of the day, Jon Hawk, who took home 4-17 from his 10 overs whilst also taking a diving catch at 3rd man that really turned the tide in the O's favour. What a day out for the RAF man a true all round performance.

The 1's are at King Street next week for a top of the table clash with Alton II, please do come down and have a watch!
